Admissions – A Thoughtful Process
Thank you for your interest in the Susan Odell Taylor School for Children. The following will provide an overview of our admissions process.
The first step in the admissions process is to get to know us. This is best accomplished by visiting our school. You can visit during an Open House or call the school and schedule a tour at a time that is convenient. During your visit, you will walk through our classrooms, chat with our Academic Director, and have an opportunity to ask questions about the school and what we have to offer.
The next step is to fill out our downloadable application and mail it to us, accompanied by the application fee. This enables us to officially open a file for your child. If your child is in kindergarten or above, a records request form and a teacher recommendation form will need to be sent to your child’s current school so that we can begin to learn about your child.
After you have applied, it is time to schedule a school visit. Children applying for preschool or prekindergarten will visit for a short time while older children will stay for a half or full day visit. This gives your child a chance to get to know the children and teachers, and gives us a chance to get to know your child.
After we have gained an understanding of your child’s unique personality, characteristics and strengths, the admissions committee is ready to meet. Careful, sincere thought and attention is given to each child’s application. When there are spaces available in a given class, acceptance letters for new students are sent out. Signed contracts are due back approximately two weeks after acceptance, in order to hold a space for the following year.
Throughout this process we encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. Our goal is to get to know you and your child well, while you get to know the school community. We recognize that your child’s success depends upon the partnership between your home and our school.
