News From Mrs. Hotaling
I can’t believe the end of the school year is almost here. Time goes by very quickly when you’re having fun! It is going to an eventful month. We have been busy preparing for our production of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. The students are memorizing their lines, figuring out their characterization and are working on expression and intonation. In keeping it green, we have used recyclable items to create some very inventive and resourceful props for our play. The 5-6 and 3-4 production will take place on June 5th at Emma Willard.
Almost all of the students have published their non-fiction research reports on India. This week the students will begin their very own lesson plans where it is finally their turn to teach the class about their topic of study. We will select some of these activities for the Country Celebration on June 10th. I hear Sitar Hero is already in its planning phases for student whose topic is “Indian Music.” It’s going to be a blast!
The 5-6’s have a very special opportunity to work with Bill Graham, a youth soccer coach with the Red Bull New York Training Programs. Will has worked with Brunswick Soccer Club over the last two years, numerous summer camps throughout the northeast and is a youth coach with the MK Dons, a professional team in England.
Have a great end of the school year!

News from Mrs. Adams
It is hard to believe that the 2007-2008 school year will soon be coming to a close. I t seems like only yesterday we began this amazing year of fun and learning.
During the month of April the 5/6 class completed a comprehensive study of the novel The White Mountains, by John Christopher. In celebration of the book, the students were engaged in a science fiction project that involved role-playing and panel discussions about imaginary planets with special characteristics. The enthusiasm throughout the novel was amazing.
In April, the 5/6 class also began preparing for their International Country Fair. Each student selected a country and began researching it in depth. They have been busy creating maps, flags, picture displays, and a float to represent their country. They have also been researching and learning about their country’s culture and history to prepare for their oral presentation. Through presentations full of facts, pictures, music, food and dance, I am confident this International Country Fair is going to be a wonderful learning experience.
The final weeks of school will be filled with a variety of learning activities. The 5/6 class will be finishing their county research projects and begin their oral presentations for the celebration of our International Country Fair. The students will continue working on their daily writing, spelling skills and play practice. This month we will also be starting Junior Great Books and a unit on keyboarding.
I hope everyone has an enjoyable summer and thank you for sharing your students with me!
