PRESCHOOL NEWS
Have you been hearing roars and feeling thunderous footsteps coming from the end of the hall? Have no fear; it is simply the dramatic play of our dinosaur unit. These fascinating creatures are always a fan favorite; we think the parents have been having just as much fun exploring the dino cave as the children! We have been learning about the various types of dinosaurs (what they ate, their size, characteristics) as well as investigating fossils and bones. Our culmination to the unit will be an archeological dig in the sand table complete with grid and authentic paleological tools. Our book buddy “Mr. Dino” continues to visit homes and we thoroughly enjoy listening to each host/hostess relay his latest antics.
Upcoming special events we look forward to are May Day at Emma Willard on May 2nd, Pre-School Grandparents/Special Friends Day on May 14th, and the end-of-the year closing ceremonies and picnic. Wait a minute…end of the year? As strange as it sounds, summer will be here before we know it. Although it is an exciting time, children can often become wary of the upcoming transitions for summer and next year. We are prepared to support and reassure individuals as they come to terms with the changes they face. We teachers can sympathize with their conflicted emotions, as it is sad to say goodbye to such an utterly delightful group of children, yet at the same time exciting to send them along their journey. Sticking to routines and maintaining status quo will be especially important in the classroom as the energy level mounts. We plan on two more units that will keep young fingers and minds busy—ocean/pirates and farm/gardening. So much left to do in our year!
Heartfelt thanks for sharing your precious children with us and best wishes for a wonderful summer!
Warm regards,
Annie, Karen and Lisa
