October 2009
News from Pre-K
What a wonderful month September was. We watched monarch caterpillars munch and grow, turn into chrysalises, and then enclose (emerge) as colorful adults. We look forward to sending the last ones off on their long journey to Mexico soon as we celebrate our annual Monarch Release Day. We have collected a few wooly bear caterpillars (the larvae of Isabella Tiger Moths) and are over-wintering them to observe their metamorphosis in the spring. So much to wonder about these fascinating creatures’ life cycles!
Apples and seasonal changes are on our minds in the beginning of October; the latter part of the month will focus on fire safety, night creatures and Halloween. Field trips to a local orchard and fire station are in the works; details will come home as soon as I can firm up specifics. Details about Halloween festivities will come home mid-month (pre-k traditionally has a casual get-together in the mid-morning).
The group is definitely coming together as a unit…they are animated, observant, humorous and helpful. They have quickly settled into routines and are engaged and enthusiastic. What fun we are having together!
Here’s to a colorful autumn--
