October 2009
News from Preschool
The school year is off to a great start. Our curriculum focus has been somewhat secondary to the important tasks of getting adjusted to school. Much of what we are doing reinforces the acquisition and understanding of school routines and expectations as well as developing individual peer relationships and appropriate group behavior. We are working to establish a foundation to build on during the remainder of the year. Also, introducing materials slowly allows children to learn to use them correctly and independently. The children are a delight, and their energy and enthusiasm are endless.
We are having such fun with them!
As we await the final step in the metamorphosis of our monarchs, we have shifted our focus to the changes occurring as the summer season comes to a close. Apples, leaves, and pumpkins will be explored this month. We also look forward to a unit on fire safety, and using dramatic play to try on the role of firefighters. Finally, at the end of the month we will enjoy some Halloween activities in preschool. Look for specific details in the weekly newsletter.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child or the program, please let us know.
Happy Fall,
Karen and Lisa
