April 2010
News from the Academic Director
Dear Families,
Happy Spring! Saying goodbye to the snow pants, hats, mittens, snow, etc. has been easy to do! We are looking forward to witnessing the new growth around us as we move through spring toward…SUMMER!
Speaking of new growth…plans for the second Taylor School garden are underway. The 1/2 class has been taking a lead role in this year’s garden as part of their Seed to Plant unit of study. On April 22nd, as part of our Earth Day Celebration, we will be inviting our children and their families to get involved in preparing the garden for planting. We will be working with the soil, building a new raised bed, and putting the protection fence back in place. Last year’s garden was a huge success and we are looking forward to this year’s harvest. We hope you can join us!
Another exciting event we have planned for the Taylor School is a visit by children’s author, Daniel Mahoney. He will visit on April 30th – Pajama Read-In Day. Daniel Mahoney is a self-taught artist who has been drawing and creating stories all his life. You can learn more about him and his delightful books at www.danieljmahoney.com. Daniel Mahoney visited the Taylor School on Pajama Read-In Day a few years ago. To date, he is the only visiting author who actually wore pajamas and joined in the fun. We can’t wait to welcome him back and learn more about his new book.
Enjoy your school break…may it be filled sunshine, fresh air, and fun times.
