News from Kindergarten
The Kindergarten has been anticipating spring all month and it is finally here! We have been reflecting on all that we have learned as a class and individually.
In theme, we are talking a great deal about bones and skeletons. We have sung and danced to many songs that help us move and learn about all the bones to our body. One of our favorite songs was “Dem Bones.” We discovered there were 206 bones in a human body. We discussed the major bones in the body. During a hands-on activity we used Q-Tips to put together skeletons representing the major bones in our body. Something interesting we discovered is that there are “scientific” names for the bones in our body. For instance our cheek is really called the zygoma.
Each day we are becoming better mathematicians. Recently pairs of students worked together to build, compare, and order cube towers. The pairs identified which were their shortest, tallest and middle towers. We discovered not everyone’s towers were the same number of floors.
During this past month we spent some time learning about St. Patrick’s Day and the important history behind this day. Along with all the exciting activities we did pertaining to this holiday we merged with the 1/2 class and celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by having Irish tea. We had our Irish tea outside so we could enjoy the beautiful weather. The Kindergarten class brought Irish soda bread and the 1/2 class made brown bread. Many of us loved the Irish tea. The fun didn’t stop there the Kindergarten and the 1/2 class sang some Irish songs while enjoying tea. We discovered this day goes far beyond just wearing green!
We are looking forward to our country study in May. Our country of study will be Japan. Many of us are wondering what types of food people in Japan eat. We look forward to answering this question and many others so we can share what we discovered with the rest of the school.
Have a nice month-
Kourtney
