News from the 1-2 Class
The month of February has flown by as we have been wrapping up our study of Ancient Egypt! The students experienced a wonderful trip to the Albany Institute of History & Art to see their exhibit on Ancient Egypt. Our favorite parts were seeing the two mummies they have on display, making our very own shabtis, and learning about Ancient Egypt from a native Egyptian and Egyptologist. We received such wonderful compliments about our thought-provoking questions and enthusiasm; it was a wonderful trip for all who went! The students have been busy creating their own sarcophaguses, based on the many examples we have learned about. These beautiful pieces of artwork will be on display in the school after they are completed!
Another exciting activity that came in February was the 100th day of school! The 1/2 class celebrated with the kindergarten class by participating in many activities centered on the number 100. We read stories about the 100th day of school, made pictures and projects with 100 pipe cleaners, pattern blocks, puzzle pieces, and rubber stamps. The students also had to write about what they might do with $100, and illustrate a picture of what they will look like at age 100! It was so much fun to watch the students move about the bungalow, work together with different faces, and celebrate 100 days of learning and hard work!
The month of March will begin with a new theme study of solids, liquids, and gases. The students will be participating in many exciting experiments to learn the different states of matter, and how they relate to each other. They will learn how to use thermometers, record observations and data, and make predictions and conclusions based on experimental outcomes. The students will be displaying their learning at the Taylor School Science Fair, and we hope you will come out to the bungalow and take a look at what we're up to!
Warmest regards,
Heather Koleszar
