News from Kindergarten
The Kindergarten is in full swing busily learning and working hard! This past month we have enjoyed a unit in math on measuring. We have measured the length and width of many objects. We have learned to compare sizes and find objects that are greater than, lesser than and equal in size to other objects. Estimation has been a new skill we have been learning as well. We are getting good at making reasonable estimates that are close to the actual amounts. Graphing is also a skill we continue to work on. We are now able to identify variables and label the increments that need to be used on our graphs.
February was also all about dental health. We read many books and discussed how we keep our teeth clean. We played some neat “tooth” games and made our very own brushing charts to keep up all of our good brushing habits. We visited Dr. Cooney’s dental office and had fun sitting in the exam chairs for our “check-ups”.
In language arts we have been working on syllables, rhyming and of course reading, reading, reading! Our writing journals are quickly filling up. Soon we may need new ones. We are writing about all kinds of topics and are able to now write several sentences for one entry. The new words we are adding to our walls are frequently found in our writing. It’s amazing to see how much our vocabulary has grown!
Valentines Day was probably our favorite day this past month. We exchanged cards and played some friendship games. It’s nice to set aside an afternoon to appreciate our friends and all their unique differences.
We had fun celebrating our 100th day of school this month. We were officially 100 days smarter on February 25th. On this day we celebrated with the 1-2 class and then continued the celebration back in our own class with many fun activities and a special snack.
In March we will kick off our ocean unit with a visit from the Scotia Glenville visiting museum. What fun this unit will be. The highlight will be hatching our triops. Stay tuned for more information on this incredible journey.
Think Spring!!
