News from the Head of School

Happy Spring everyone! We really have had some wonderful weather this year.

Along with the arrival of spring we also have the annual increase in children and family events that seem to happen when the weather changes. In the end of winter it always seems like a good idea to sign up for soccer and baseball and the school play but in reality things seem to start spinning faster for many of our families this time of year. I think it is the nature of living in the Northeast. When winter ends, we just want to take advantage of every opportunity to be out in the sunshine.

These activities can be wonderfully enriching for our children. They can be exhausting too! I know that I have become caught up in the momentum many times myself. My only advice is to try to live in the moment and enjoy the time you spend with your children. As for school and the effect crazy schedules can have on the children, please try to make sure they still get plenty of sleep and healthy food. We still have so much learning to do before the end of the school year!

I am going to make one more pitch asking you all to join us for this year’s “Explore and Soar Gala and Auction” this Saturday, May 9. We will be honoring Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D. with an  Excellence in Science and Technology Education award.

Although we use the term gala, it really is a fairly informal community event. It is a fun evening with lots of unique auction items. How would you like to have Mrs. “B” make your child’s lunch for a week? How about having your child be Academic Director for a day? Have you seen the fabulous baskets in the entranceway this year? The gala committee has worked very hard to make this event special and I thank them for their time and energy. The gala is our major fund raiser of the year and we need the whole community to invite their circle of friends and neighbors to ensure its success. Thank you!

Over the next 2 months we will see each other at plays, picnics and celebrations. These events are the culmination of a full year of nurturing joyful learners. I am so proud of all of our students and all that they have accomplished – and I am sure that you will be too.

Take care,

Wendy
