News from the Academic Director
Dear Families,
As you know, we have made important changes to our summer programming. Our objective is to continue to offer a “Taylor School experience” throughout the summer. One of the significant ways we will accomplish this goal is by having our faculty and staff run the programs. In addition, the programs have a low adult/child ratio, which will give each child an enriched experience.
The changes we have made will serve to strengthen the Taylor School in numerous ways. As with any change, confusion about the “new way” may exist. I would like to take this opportunity to explain the options of our current summer program.
All School Transition Camp, June 14 – June 18: This week is open to all Taylor School students. There will be two groups of students, a “youngers” group (preschool through second grade) and an “olders” group (third through sixth grade). There have not been any changes made to this week. It is our “traditional” transition week camp.
Olders Transition Camp, June 21 – June 25: This week is open to Taylor School students in grades three through six. We added this week for the “olders” in response to requests from our families. Many of the area summer programs do not begin until the following week, creating a need for childcare.
Summer Enrichment Program, June 21 – August 13: This program is open to children throughout the capital region, ages three through eight (preschool through entering third grade). We will offer eight weeks of engaging programs, each with a different theme. Our teachers have already begun planning for lots of summer laughter and learning! (Please see our website for complete details.)
Summer Skills Program, June 21 – August 13: This program is open to Taylor School students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Summer Skills is for students who will benefit from continued reinforcement of the skills and concepts learned during the school year. Taylor School teachers work with small groups of students, Monday through Thursday mornings, in the areas of reading, math, and writing.
We are very excited about our summer programming. The changes we made have enabled us to embrace our mission of “Nurturing Joyful Learners” throughout the summer months. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Best,
Kelly
