News from Kindergarten
The kindergarten room is buzzing with excitement. The Japan unit has been a thrilling learning experience. Using a wide array of bright colors students made a kimono using paper weaving skills. The students learned the time and patience it takes to create such a beautiful piece of art.
Studying further into Japanese culture the kindergarten class read a variety of Japanese folktales. The class was so interested in the onis featured in the folktales read that they created their very own oni mask. Each student was able to plan and create a mask that represented their imaginative ideas. When finished the students enjoyed sharing the unique oni mask they had designed.
On Earth Day, the kindergarten discovered that each of us do a lot to help the earth. To make a better connection with how we can reuse materials around our school the kindergarten class reused newspaper to make bowls. We even made the glue we used to put these bowls together! Once our bowls dried we spent time decorating our bowls. We talked about what we could do with our homemade bowls other then eating out of them. Each child was excited to take their bowl home and share it with their family.
In the upcoming month the kindergarten class is looking forward to celebrating the Japanese Holiday of Children’s Day. To recognize this holiday the kindergarten class will be making traditional carp kites that are flown on this holiday. The children are hoping to be able to fly these kites when they are finished making them.
This has been a rewarding school year. A year filled with a great deal of growth among each of the kindergarten students. Thank you for sharing your joyful learner with me!
