Happy Fall! With the changing seasons, students in our school are experiencing new themes, traveling to new places, and learning to work together. The annual tradition of literary pumpkins has begun, and students in K-6 are working together in cooperative gr= oups to create a literary character using a pumpkin, art supplies, and lots of creativity. These pumpkins will be on display towards the middle of October in the front hallway. The Preschool/Prekindergarten and Prekindergarten classes will a= lso create class pumpkins to put on display. Enjoy the beautiful fall days and the joy that comes with a new season!

The Preschool/Prekindergarten class enjoyed our unit on birds. = We had fun sorting different types of seed and we made binoculars ou= t of paper towel tubes. We spent a lot of time outside watching = and identifying different kinds of birds.

Reilly is enjoying some time in our classroom birdhouse. The class enjoyed painting and constructing this birdhouse out of a cardboa= rd box.

Happy fall, everyone! Pre-K celebrated the arrival of autumn with= a Johnny Appleseed pan-hat parade.

Our trip to Goold Orchards was interesting, with lots of hand-on learning. Annabel is feeling the soft lining of a real pick sack.=

After a sensory tour and snack, we went into the orchard and picked app= les from trees laden with fruit. So many different types of app= les to choose from!

We stopped in the pumpkin patch to find vines, blossoms, tendrils and pumpkins of all sizes. Thank you to all of our parent helpers for making this a safe and enjoyable trip!

We used a record player to create spin art apples. Louis has checked= his name off on the waiting list and is preparing his plate.

Our class baked an applesauce cake to celebrate Johnny Appleseed's birthday.

At the math center we weighed apples and small pumpkins then estimated and checked the amount of unifix cubes it would take to balance the scale.

At the listening center the children took turns listening to a favorite story.

The children also enjoy putting on puppet shows in the puppet theater donated by our old friend and pre-k classmate, Calvin Matthew.

1-2 Class

The students are learning how to respectfully greet another person. O= ne of the ways we practice this skill is through our Morning Meeting greetings. The web greeting is a fun way for students to great ea= ch other with a ball of yarn. As each student is greeted, they hold a piece of the yarn, creating a beautiful woven effect.<= /span>

During our Morning Meeting we have activities and games that the students participate in. The Warm Wind Blows has children who have a particular attribute (like students with curly hair, or students who have a = cat) moving around to an empty rug square. The student who is left standing then calls out a new attribute<= /p>

The 1-2 class and 3-4 class teamed up to rid the butterfly garden of aphids in a natural way. Read more about this in the 3-4 cl= ass section!

3D"Lillie Is Is= that the sun? No, it is Lillie Bell! As a part of our Solar Sy= stem Unit, students are creating models of the sun, Earth and moon. The sun paintings are a mixture of markers, craypas and colored penci= ls.

Dexter is the 1-2 Class Student of the Week! Dexter is sharing a poster = that he made about himself. Tomorrow he'll be sharing his musical hobb= y.

3-4 Class

= We had great time at CMOST investigating the wonderful world of weat= her.

The 3-4's and 1-2's joined forces in combating an invas= ive species of aphids that were taking over our very beautiful Butter= fly Garden. We used a simple solution of soap and water to spray the plants and get rid of the aphids!

Our 3-4 meteorologists worked hard and had fun using a variety of scientific tools when forecasting the weather this week.

This year, there was a special celebration at Liberty Ridge Farm, the Hubble Space Telescope Adventure Corn Maze commemorating the 20 y= ears of the Hubble Space Telescope Program.

= Our 6^th grade math students are having fun solving "The Locker Problem." They were busy investigating prime numbers, square numbers, factors and multiples.

Hurricane Irene Fundraiser

= The Taylor School students are all working on service learning projects using the Kids Consortium model to help the victims of Hurricane Ire= ne.

= The 3-4 class is collecting non-perishable food items to donate to= the Regional Food Bank. The students will be bringing the food items to the Food Bank and volunteering their time to help sort, organize, and collect food at the Regional Food Bank. Donat= ed food items can be dropped off in the main hallway outside the 3-4 classroom door. Thank you for your support and generosity towards the victims of Hurricane Irene!

Other service learning projects are in the works, stay tuned for other = ways you and your family members can help our neighbors as they recover from the devastation Hurricane Irene has caused.

Bottles & Can Recycling Fundraiser

The 5/6 cla= ss is once again collecting $0.05 bottles and cans to help off-= set the cost of their end of the year field trip. If you would = like to donate your bottles and cans, please leave them in bags <= u>next to the pool fence.
