Dear
Taylor School Community,
Welcome back to a brand new
school year at the Taylor School! Our classrooms
are in full swing, and the buzz of children
learning is permeating throughout our school.
I am looking forward to seeing you all at
our Curriculum Night on Monday evening.
Please enjoy a sampling of the joy that is
already emerging from a brand new school year
below, beginning with our beloved monarch release
tradition!

Sincerely,
| |
| Preschool/Prekindergarten Class |
|
The preschool/prekindergarten
class is off to a wonderful start. We are
learning about all the letters in the alphabet
using the book Chicka Chicka
Boom Boom.

We made pancakes that have our
initials on them!
Here is the finished product.
Can you see our initials before we gobble up our
pancakes?

Ella is painting a beautiful
apple at the easels. Did you know apple
starts with the letter "A?" Ella does!

Reilly is working on writing her
letters at the alphabet
station. |
| Prekindergarten
Class |
|
We have thoroughly enjoyed watching
our monarch caterpillars munch milkweed and grow,
make their chrysalises, emerge as butterflies, and
fly off to Mexico when we release them!

Eve is golf-ball painting a very
colorful butterfly.
Maddy and Louis are color mixing blue
and yellow to make green milkweed
leaves.
Egan and Maggie watch the first of
our adults stretch their wings so they can
identify if they are boys or
girls. |
| Kindergarten
Class |
The kindergarten class is alive with
excitement and energy for learning! On the
very first day of school, we went on a hunt for
clues to find the Gingerbread Man.
Here we are in the Common Room
finding a clue!
Ava is completing a math center about
geometric shapes. She had to find different
pattern blocks to cover apples in the shapes of
hexagons.

Quinn is completing her
ABC center, where she put letters into
alphabetical
order! |
| 1-2 Class |
| The 1-2 class is very busy learning
about each other, making new friends, learning new
routines, and diving into their first theme study
of Earth and the Solar System.

Jack and Noah are interviewing each
other for a collaborative writing piece.

Ryan is dyeing a pillowcase that will
record all the books he has read during the
year.

Eric is helping organize materials
for his classmates.

Here is the whole class visiting the
weather station on the playing field. We are
learning how to read a thermometer and record
daily temperatures here on Earth to compare them
with other planets in the solar
system! |
|
3-4 Class |
|
The 3-4's have had a spectacular
start to their school year! Our first scientific
unit is The Wonderful World of Weather. We visited
YNN Capital News 9 Studios and got to meet many of
the familiar faces we see when watching YNN at
home.
Mike Bono, chief meteorologist,
showed the students how he does the weather report
each day. It was very exciting to be able to stand
in front of the "green screen" and give a weather
report.

It was interesting to see all the
intricate components involved in sharing the
news and the weather.
Very soon we will be using our very own
scientific tools in our weather station to predict
weather patterns in our
area.
|
| 5-6 Class |
|
The 5/6 class is actively engaged in
their first science unit of the year on solar
energy.
The students investigated the
transfer of solar energy and the effects that a
cover has on the retention of heat absorbed by a
solar collector.
They also examined the importance of
color in the absorption and reflection of solar
energy.

| Message from Board
President, Steve Ridler |

Over the summer, new sod was
installed on the Taylor School playing
field. This beautiful new grass is providing
a fun and safe place for our children to enjoy
recess and physical education. The cost
of the new sod was about $4,000. Through
generous donations from our Taylor School
Board members, community members, and local
businesses, we have raised over $3800 towards the
cost of the field. If you have not yet made
your donation, please consider making a small
donation of $10 or $20 by Monday
September 26th to help get us to our goal.
In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of your
children enjoying the new playing field!

I have a
